  Thallus subcrustose to small-foliose, loosely adnate to adnate, to 2–3 cm wide. Lobes imbricate or not, flat, irregular, irregularly branched, 1–2 (–3) mm wide; marginal lobes flattened, broader, 1.5–2 (–3) mm wide; older lobes contorted. Upper surface yellow to yellow-green, dull, emaculate, without soredia; older lobes irregularly or transversely fractured, commonly forming areolae c. 0.3–1 mm wide; isidia moderately dense to dense, globose becoming cylindrical, simple, some ultimately extensively branched or eventually becoming knob-like; knob-like isidia ±inflated at apices, epicorticate, not erumpent. Medulla white. Lower surface pale brown to brown, darker at lobe apices; rhizines sparse to moderately dense, simple, pale brown. Apothecia rare, sessile, 1–4 mm wide; disc concave, becoming undulating, black-brown; thalline exciple thick, entire, becoming isidiate. Ascospores 6–8 × 3.5–4.5 µm. Pycnidia rare. Conidia bacilliform, 4–5 × 1 µm. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K+ yellow then pale red, C-, P-; containing usnic acid, hypostictic acid, hyposalazinic acid and ±hypoconstictic acid.
     
  Rare, endemic, on rock in arid shrubland areas of inland Australia (W.A., S.A. and N.S.W.).
