Melia azedarach 'Lady Gwenda'
This cultivar differs in its variegated foliage. All other
features of the cultivar are as for M. azedarach.
Diagnosis:
The main feature of this cultivar is the variegation on most
leaves and the yellow striation on the fruits. The variegation is
irregular, with some leaflets almost totally yellow while others are the
usual green.
Grevillea 'Poorinda Ensign'
This cultivar grows to .8cm tall. The leaves are glabrous on
the upper surface and covered with silky hairs beneath. The leaves can be
up to 28mm long though mostly are around 15-20mm long by 1-4mm wide. The
leaf shape is variable, and occasional lobed leaves are found. All lobes
and leaf tips end in a pungent point. The leaf edges are rolled under. The
flowers are a bright pink and found in dense clusters on short terminal
branchlets. Each flower is around 8mm long. The styles are up to 25mm long
and are a much darker pink.
Diagnosis:
G. lavandulacea and G. ilicifolia vary considerably over their
natural occurrence. The cultivar is very different to its purported
parents. Grevillea 'Poorinda Ensign' very occasionally has lobed leaves and
this is probably the only characteristic that can be directly attributed to
G. ilicifolia.
Agonis 'Fairy Foliage'
Diagnosis:
The distinguishing feature which makes this plant different from
the normal form is that the leaves are much more crowded. Individual leaf
lamina are generally narrower than normal, the lamina always ending a third
to a half the way along the leaf. The remainder of the leaf is reduced to a
thread-like extension of the mid-rib.
Crowea exalata 'Bindelong Compact'
This cultivar is a form of Crowea exalata. It is a compact
shrub with a height of about 0.5m and a width of about 1m. It is very
floriferous, producing deep pink flowers which darken to a deep purple with
age. The flowers and leaves are in the smaller size range of the species
with the flower diameter around 1.7cm and the leaves about 1.2cm long.
Diagnosis:
C. 'Bindelong Compact' is more compact than the usual form of
C. exalata which grows to more or less 1m high. It flowers throughout the
year with the main flowering from December to April. Other forms of C.
exalata are usually most prolific from March to May. Other features of this
cultivar are as for C. exalata.
Banksia serrata 'Pygmy Possum'
This cultivar is a very low growing form of the species, growing to .6m tall by up to 2.5m across. The leaves and inflorescences are the smallest in the range of variation of the species. The leaves are up to
8.5cm long by 2cm wide at the widest point. The inflorescences are short and squat, generally reaching 10cm tall by up to 9cm wide, though they have been recorded from 12cm to 20cm tall.
Diagnosis:
Banksia ' Pygmy Possum' can immediately be distinguished by its low, sprawling growth habit and the generally smaller size of its leaves and inflorescences.
NOTE: Like many dwarf selections this cultivar will grow to an upright form. 30 year old plants at the ANBG are now 4-5 metres high.
