Flowers and fruit

Stem and leaf characters by themselves are usually not enough to allow a plant specimen to be fully identified and additional characters from the flowers and fruit are needed in most cases.

The flowers and fruit may be scattered and solitary, or grouped into complex structures, inflorescences, of various sorts.

Depending on the season, flowers and fruit may or may not be present on the same specimen.
