artist:Sydney Parkinson (1894 - )

Botanical print produced from original drawings made by Sydney Parkinson on the first voyage of Captain Cook (1768-1771). During the first part of the voyage Parkinson had time to complete the drawing as full watercolours.

This was engraved by Gerald Sibelius, under the patronage of Banks. These passed to the Natural History Museum on Banks' death and were eventually published by them in the 1980s in full colour as Banks' Florilegium, using the original engraving plates.
