Chamelaucium uncinatum 'Bundara Excelsior'
The habit of this cultivar is similar to normal Chamelaucium
uncinatum. The flowers are an attractive pale mauve.
Diagnosis:
This shrub is very robust. A large percentage of the flowers are
borne on the branch terminals. The original shrub was bred with the cut
flower market in mind and the flower bearing capability of the shrub was
proven by the amount of flowers cropped from it. In the first year 3.4kg,
second year 13.6kg and the third year 18.2kg were cropped from one plant.
This crop rate was recorded at Bundara Nursery. It is distinguished from
other similarly coloured forms by its heavier crop of flowers.
Correa reflexa var. speciosa 'Fat Fred'
This cultivar is a very large flowered form of the species.
The flowers are quite squat, measuring plus/minus 30mm overall by
plus/minus 13mm in diameter. The upper part of the corolla tube is red
while the tips are a clear green yellow. All other characteristics of the
cultivar fit within the known range of variation of C. reflexa var.
speciosa.
Diagnosis:
The cultivar can be distinguished by its very large flowers.
Banksia serrata 'Pygmy Possum'
This cultivar is a very low growing form of the species, growing to .6m tall by up to 2.5m across. The leaves and inflorescences are the smallest in the range of variation of the species. The leaves are up to
8.5cm long by 2cm wide at the widest point. The inflorescences are short and squat, generally reaching 10cm tall by up to 9cm wide, though they have been recorded from 12cm to 20cm tall.
Diagnosis:
Banksia ' Pygmy Possum' can immediately be distinguished by its low, sprawling growth habit and the generally smaller size of its leaves and inflorescences.
NOTE: Like many dwarf selections this cultivar will grow to an upright form. 30 year old plants at the ANBG are now 4-5 metres high.
Banksia integrifolia 'Roller Coaster'
The cultivar is basically prostrate spreading to 4m wide. The
central stem rises to ca. 100-150 mm from which point the branches arch
out. Occasional branches arch up to 150 mm tall. The leaves are wedge
shaped with toothed margins and are from 50-70 mm long. The new growth is a
bronzy green. The flower spikes are lemon yellow and 90-110 mm long by
60-70 mm inside. The flowering season is autumn and winter.
Diagnosis:
B. 'Roller Coaster' can be distinguished by its prostrate form.
Banksia ericifolia 'Limelight'
This cultivar has distinctive lime green foliage. The new
growth and the leaf margins are a golden colour and the shoot apices are a
reddish bronze. The flower colour is yellow orange. The growth rate of the
cultivar is quite slow, estimated at about half that usually expected from
the species in both garden and nursery situations. Ultimate height and
width has not yet been assessed.
Diagnosis:
Banksia 'Limelight' can be distinguished by the unusual lime
green of its foliage.
Grevillea 'Tyalge Glow'
This cultivar grows to a shrub 1.3m X 1m. Leaves are
approximately 25mm long and 5mm wide with a sharp tip, thickened recurved
margins, glabrous above except for young leaves which have some silky hairs
at the base and with a covering of appressed silky hairs below; the stems
are grey hairy; the flowers are in spider like racemes approximately 60mm
across, terminal on short branches; the perianth is red covered with white
and pale brown hairs on the outside, silky hairy within; pedicels are
covered with brown hairs; the perianth segments are recurved; the style is
approximately 30mm long, dark red, glabrous.
Diagnosis:
Grevillea speciosa:
Shrub 1-3m tall X 1-2.5m wide; leaves 10-50mm X 8mm on
a short petiole becoming glabrous above, silky hairy below, apex with a
small point; racemes to 70mm across, flowers pink to deep red, hairy
outside, segments recurved, style to 30mm long, pink to deep red in colour;
main flowering time is winter and spring.
Grevillea 'Tyalge Glow':
Shrub 1.3m X 1m; leaves 25mm X 5mm, on a short
petiole, becoming glabrous above, silky hairy below, apex with a pungent
point; racemes to 60mm across, flowers red, hairy outside, segments
recurved; style to 30mm long, deep red in colour; flowering time is winter
and spring.
Grevillea 'Poorinda Firebird':
Shrub 2-3m X 2-4m; leaves 30mm X 2-4mm,
sessile, young growth silky hairy above, silky hairy below, apex with a
pungent point; racemes to 40mm across; flowers scarlet, hairy outside,
segments recurved; style 25mm long, scarlet in colour; flowering time is
winter to summer.
Prostanthera ovalifolia 'Brundah Candy'
Large open shrub, 3m x 3m, flowers pink 15mm x 15mm from early September to November.
Prostanthera lasianthos 'Kallista Pink'
This cultivar has deep clear pink flowers borne in profusion.
The shrub grows from 4 to 5m tall by plus/minus 3m wide. All other features
of the plant are as for P. lasianthos.
Grevillea rosmarinifolia 'Lime-Light'
It is an erect, sparse shrub growing to a height of up to 3m
by 2.5m wide. The leaves are up to 20mm long by about 1mm wide. The leaf
edges are tightly recurved. The flowers are borne in small clusters at the
ends of short branches. Individual flowers are lime green and about 7mm
long and the styles are 17mm long . The main flowering period is from April
to September.
Diagnosis:
This cultivar is different from other known forms of
G.rosmarinifolia in its erect, sparse habit of growth and lime green
flowers. It is outstanding in its production of masses of lime green
flowers during the winter months. It is different from G. rosmarinifolia
'Lara Dwarf' in its erect habit and lime green flowers. G.rosmarinifolia
'Lara Dwarf' is prostrate and has creamy white, blushed pink flowers.
Notes:
Banksia spinulosa 'Birthday Candles'
Compact dwarf shrub with outstanding display of red and yellow cones from March to September
