A pot outside the Visitor Centre contains the wax flower, Eriostemon australasius [Section 221], clad with welcoming pink star flowers. This walk is a stroll along the Main Path, bounding with perfume, variety, colour and tranquillity, starting at the far end of the Café building.

Hardenbergia violacea [Section 12] trails its stems of purple pea-shaped flowers over the leaf litter and Geraldton Wax, Chamelaucium uncinatum ‘Purple Pride’ [Section 12], stands small and erect with shades of pink wax flowers. An emubush, Eremophila drummondii [Section 302], is a small upright shrub graced with purple bugle flowers and, in the bed of daisies, Rhodanthe anthemoides ‘Chamomile Cascade’ [Section 303] is a dense cushion plant embroidered with many soft white daisies. Billy Buttons, Craspedia variabilis [Section 303], bears its globular heads of bright yellow flowers on long erect stems.

Across the road a waratah, Telopea ‘Doug’s Hybrid’ [Section 30] is of medium size and is laden with many large pale buds just opening to its large red flowers…this plant can also be seen just outside the main gates. Eriostemon verrucosus ‘J. Semmens’ [Section 30] is small and lovely with a mass of multi-petalled white flowers.

The path now winds through many grevilleas which include Grevillea lavandulacea ‘Tanunda’ [Section 30] which edge the path. The cherry red flowers are bright against the grey-green foliage. Grevillea alpina (Goldfields form) [Section 30] is a larger shrub dotted with soft lemon flowers. Crossing the road, Grevillea dimorpha [Section 24] is small with deep red flowers along its upright stems and Grevillea johnsonii x wilsonii [Section 24] is quite large with fiery red curvaceous flowers. Grevillea flexuosa [Section 26] has yellow candle-like perfumed flowers at the ends of long arching branches.

Across the road Boronia muelleri ‘Sunset Serenade’ [Section 112] has a profusion of pink star-like flowers over the small shrub. Entering the area of Sydney Region flora, Boronia fraseri [Section 191h] has flowers which are a deeper shade of pink over a small compact shrub. Asterolasia asteriscophora [Section 191h] is bright with small yellow flowers. Along the path is Dillwynia ramosissima [Section 191h], a dwarf open plant with small yellow pea-flowers. At the lookout, on the slopes of the gully Pomaderris ferruginea [Section 191j] presents large heads of fluffy yellow flowers over a medium sized shrub. Sowerbaea juncea [Section 191p] is a small tufted plant with small clusters of purple flowers amid the rush-like foliage. Tetratheca thymifolia [Section 191j] is dense with downturned pink flowers.

Much to see along the Main Path ... Barbara Daly.
